    Learning objectives

    “The House We Live In

The aim of this course is to establish a critical distance from current discourse on ‘sustainable development’, by looking back at the ideas developed since the 19th century with a view to establishing a more respectful relationship between human beings and their living environment. To this end, we analyze the founding texts as well as projects formulating a different way of inhabiting our common home, the Earth, most often calling for consideration of ecosystems and the potentials held by a territory, the way in which they can support economic and human activities that respect the resources they represent, while promoting the organization of a so-called harmonious community.
It is also an introduction to environmental history and its issues.
