© Julien Pornet
The Ciné-forum is a forum for exchange between interdisciplinary researchers and film makers chosen to discuss territories in resistance.
As part of the Jean Rouch Festival‘s “Hors les murs” program, the Architecture Anthropology Laboratory (LAA) at ENSA Paris-la Villette is organizing a screening-debate of the film “Urbanistes”, produced by the team from Est Ensemble’s Direction de l’aménagement et des déplacements as part of the Observatoires documentaires run by Périphérie.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with directors Julien Pornet and Julien Meunier and part of the film crew, moderated by Nava Meron and Mina Saidi Sharouz.
Synopsis
“Our job is not to build the city at all!” says an urban planner in Seine-Saint-Denis. So what does it mean to be an urban planner? In this collective film, Est Ensemble’s urban planners question and reflect together on the meaning of their profession. Following a variety of work situations, from moments taken on the spot in the field to moments of dialogue between colleagues, from video meetings to encounters with residents, the film embraces the diversity of practices and movements of thought, creating a choral and plural documentary form. By recounting their passion for their profession and their love of the city, and by exploring their doubts and structural shortcomings, Est Ensemble’s urban planners deliver in this film a sensitive and committed look at their own practice.
