Lecture offered as part of Semester 4, Learning to design “Public buildings – space and construction”.
Architectures Raphaël Gabrion was founded in 2008 by Raphaël Gabrion, a DPLG architect who graduated from the École d’architecture de Normandie in 2001.
Ordering the program and making it legible, freeing and holding the void, revealing spaces through light, building the eye and anchoring in the landscape… these are the recurring themes of the studio that are applied to each project. Small in scale, the studio prefers to limit the number of projects it works on, in order to give priority to the reflection needed to ensure that they run smoothly.
In 2008, Raphaël Gabrion won the Albums des Jeunes Architectes & Paysagistes (AJAP), a prize awarded by the French Ministry of Culture.
In 2019, the agency delivered a 30-home project in Chanteloup-en-Brie, featuring a combined BIM + WOOD + BEPOS approach. This project was awarded a Grand Prix de la construction Bois en Île-de-France.
In 2022, Architectures Raphaël Gabrion delivered a 9-unit social housing project in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. The project features a low-carbon approach and a stone construction method. The project was nominated for theÉquerre d’argent award and the Prix d’A, and received the Geste d’Or award.
The agency’s current projects include a Passif school in Troyes (in association with LA architectures), 53 social housing units in stone and wood in Paris, 43 housing units in Ivry-Confluence, a media library in Nancy, a building complex on the Île de Nantes, and the design of 306 housing units in Toulouse with LAN architectes.
