Agiles Argiles. Building with raw earth

© Studio Erick Saillet
This panoramic exhibition invites visitors to discover raw earth, an age-old building material, in all the technical and practical diversity it offers to the act of building.
The objects on display are complemented by the raw earth products created by M1 students as part of the course Is bioclimatic architecture in a post-extractivist perspective an adequate response to the climate crisis? (CTA 809) directed by Benoit Rougelot.
The exhibition appeals to the senses, the beautiful and the surprising, combining the presentation of creations and implementations, sources of inspiration, technical details and 1:1 scale models of materials. Touch is welcome!
Discover shaped raw earth with the bauge technique; rammed earth with the pisé technique; filling and insulating raw earth with the torchis and lightened earth techniques; molded raw earth with bricks, blocks and other tiles; facing raw earth with plasters… Each process involves, by nature or choice, more or less prefabrication, more or less on-site intervention. Each technique offers more or less bearing capacity, more or less hygro-thermal regulation and insulation (thermal and acoustic), more or less suitability for facing. Each site calls for a more or less participatory process, and more or less conventional contractors.
In a nutshell: here you can discover raw earth in all its technical and practical diversity.
