Deconstructing demolition

DOCUMENT – LUTTER – AGIR
Initiated by the student association La Vill’Verte, the exhibition is a continuation of the thinking behind HouseEurope! and occupies the exhibition gallery at ENSA Paris-la Villette, resonating with the school’s characteristic territory and commitment.
With global awareness of the scarcity of resources and growing inequalities, the choice of demolition is questionable, given the disproportionate financial, environmental and social impact.
And yet, housing demolition is a global, silent and violent phenomenon that takes place all over Europe. Hundreds of thousands of homes are quietly demolished every year as part of urban renewal projects, social housing projects or private development projects.
Associations, the protagonists of resistance, use a variety of means to confront this system, which constantly undermines social justice and the right to housing. From demonstrations to legislative proposals, collectives such as Stop Démolitions, DAL, APPUII and, more recently, HouseEurope! are making their voices heard on the value of what exists, challenging the foundations of the dominant linear economic system.
Curated and produced by: Association étudiante la Vill’Verte – Ivan Le Hir and Nathan Oriou, Laure Navarro and Pauline Lafargue, graduate architects at ENSAPLV, and teachers Angélique Chedemois, senior lecturer at TPCAU, and Louis Destombes, associate lecturer at TPCAU.
