TAP Project #4/9: Circular Economy and Material Reuse

This event, part of a series of thematic events launched by the TAP project consortium, is organized by the École nationale supérieure d’architecture de Normandie and the Grand Chantier association.
The goal is to bring together faculty members and researchers, as well as professionals in the fields of architecture and landscape architecture, to discuss issues and initiatives related to the circular economy and the reuse of materials.
How can we promote a frugal lifestyle through the reuse of materials?
This seminar explores how the principles of the circular economy are shaping architecture, which is caught between the depletion of construction resources and the accumulation of construction and demolition waste. The goal is to anticipate how project design changes when its form must be dictated by the availability of materials. From initial assessment through material characterization and reuse, reusing materials helps restore meaning to the act of building by requiring a broader range of skills closely tied to the transformation of materials. This event, organized by the École Nationale Supérieure d’Architecture de Normandie (ENSA-P) and the Grand Chantier association, will offer an overview of current circularity-focused courses at ENSA-P, featuring concrete feedback from educational experiences, to collectively envision the skills needed by the architects of tomorrow. The presentations and workshops will take place at Hangar Zéro, an iconic community-driven laboratory for reuse and low-tech solutions in Le Havre.
